If you are installing Hardi (or similar) and don't have these you are punishing yourself. I can easily bang out 4-5 square a day by myself depending on how many windows and doors. It makes the job so easy. Just don't rely on the built in measurement for the whole wall. It's fiber cement siding- the edges aren't perfect. A 1/16" burr on a few pieces will certainly alter your height by the time you reach the roof. Every 3-4 boards I check to make sure I'm still at the right height and adjust accordingly.

Actually, I have been using these this morning. I have installed about 7 squares of cement fiber board siding with these so far by myself, and they are great. They work as advertised. If you are installing lap siding these are REQUIRED. Especially great if you are a "do it yourselfer". They clamp in place and hold the plank securely while you nail. The aluminum version (what I have) costs a little more than the green plastic version, but you can expect to drop them, and the aluminum ones are very rugged. I highly recommend this product.... well worth the purchase price.

These things are amazing. I really don't know how I would have installed the siding on my shed without them. I set them at 6" and after the bottom board, the rest was cake. The only issue is the nuts that hold pieces together for the desired board separation kept coming undone - but I was hand tightening, so I'm sure with the proper tools these could be locked better. Great tool, highly recommend.
